About Commissioning Engineer jobs

Commissioning engineers bring new systems to life. Once equipment is installed, they check the wiring and I/O, load and test the control programs, tune loops and drives, run the system through its acceptance tests and hand it over to the customer. Field service engineers do much of the same work over the equipment's life: start-ups, upgrades, repairs and emergency call-outs.

Most of these roles are with the companies that make the equipment -- drives, robots, switchgear, distributed control systems, building automation -- and are based at customer sites rather than an office, so travel is the defining feature. The numbers below show how much these postings say you'll travel.
