Job Overview
The System Engineer will be responsible for the engineering and design of secondary protection systems, including numerical relays, Control and Relay Panels (CRP), Substation Automation Systems (SAS), Power Plant Controllers (PPC) and Load Shedding schemes across various voltage levels.
The role involves working on projects for Central, State and Private Utilities, renewable energy customers and Process Bus substations. Responsibilities span the complete project lifecycle, from understanding customer requirements and preparing detailed engineering documentation to obtaining design approvals, initiating material procurement and supporting project execution, factory testing and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare Protection Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), trip matrices, interlocking logic, General Arrangement (GA) drawings and Bills of Material (BOM) as per customer and project specifications.
Design Control and Protection Panels for different voltage levels and bus arrangements.
Prepare control and protection schematics for generators, transmission lines, transformers, reactors, busbars and other power system equipment.
Configure and work with numerical protection relays from Siemens, Hitachi, GE and other relevant manufacturers.
Prepare FAT, SAT, GTP, TTR, FDS and heat-load calculation documents.
Develop SAS and Process Bus system architectures using Star, RSTP, PRP and Ring topologies.
Work with Ethernet switches, next-generation firewalls, RedBox devices and associated networking components.
Apply knowledge of substation communication protocols, including IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-101/104, Modbus Serial/TCP-IP, SNTP and PTP.
Understand Master-Slave and Client-Server architectures, IEC 61850 communication and computer networking principles.
Work with SAS platforms and configuration tools such as SICAM SCC, SIMATIC WinCC, RTC A8000, S8000 and MicroSCADA.
Develop suitable Substation Automation System solutions based on customer and project requirements.
Coordinate with customers for drawing approvals and resolution of technical queries.
Initiate material loading documents for factory procurement, fabrication and panel wiring.
Provide engineering support to Sales, Factory, Testing, Project Management and Commissioning teams during project execution.
Required Qualifications and Skills
B.E./B.Tech in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
2–8 years of relevant experience in Protection & Control engineering, Control Relay Panels and/or Substation Automation Systems.
Strong understanding of secondary engineering, protection schemes, control schematics and numerical relays.
Knowledge of SAS architectures, communication protocols and industrial networking.
Good interpersonal, communication and critical-thinking skills.
Ability to work independently, learn quickly and deliver with minimal supervision.
Proficiency in Windows, server environments and MS Office.
Preferred Skills
Hands-on experience with DIGSI 5, DIGSI 4, Reyrolle and Siemens protection relay configuration tools.
Experience with Ethernet switches and Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs).
Familiarity with SIMATIC WinCC/SCC, Toolbox, Device Manager and DIGSI.
Knowledge of EPLAN E-CAD or E-Base and AutoCAD.
Experience in substation projects involving utilities, renewable energy, Process Bus or multiple voltage levels.

How we calculate "similar"
No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.
Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.
0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
